Black Willow Bark for Inflammation and Swelling

White Willow Bark has made quite a name for itself over the past few centuries as a pain reliever, and is closely related to aspirin. Known also as salacin willow, white willow has several beneficial medicinal properties. But did you know that Black Willow Bark is good for pain as well as swelling?

Black willow, also known as pussy willow, has medicinal properties that have also been known for centuries as a pain relieving plant. It has properties that also work to relieve swelling and inflammation.

Both barks can be made into a decoction by soaking 1-3 teaspoonfuls in cild water for up to three hours, (up to four hours for white willow bark). After soaking, bring to a boil and then promptly remove from heat source. This can be taken internally one mouthful at a time, but no more than one cup per day.

Combined, these two willow barks could be used (in small doses) much like you would use aspirin and ibuprofen, working to relieve both pain and inflammation, as well as the reduction of joint pain.
